Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Community members and business partners are encouraged to attend and participate. There is a public speaking section during every meeting that provides an opportunity for anyone to share positive feedback or concerns. However, the board is unable to take action on any item that is not already included on the meeting’s agenda.
Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive). A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, November 14, 2016, included:
“Made with Pride in Duncanville” Honorees Recognized
Michelle Anderson is the counselor at Daniel Intermediate School. Ms. Anderson was nominated for the “Made with Pride in Duncanville” honor thanks to the support and guidance she offers students and parents. Ms. Anderson helps parents understand different diagnosis students receive and helps them work through personal struggles. Credible, respectful and hardworking are all character traits that describe Ms. Anderson.
Angel Cabrera is the Lead Custodian at Byrd Middle School. Mr. Cabrera joined the Custodial Department in January 2010. His skill, personal work ethic and cooperative attitude quickly became apparent to his supervisors.
Mr. Cabrera serves the students and staff at Byrd Middle School with distinction and professional conduct, leading his team with an attitude of servant leadership to provide a superior standard of service.
The Murata sisters, Jenelle, Richel and Michele, are Duncanville ISD students. All three sisters excel inside and outside the classroom. They are on the honor roll, are leaders in the classroom and are part of the Youth and Government (YAG) program. Jenelle, a sophomore at Duncanville High School, was the lead attorney on the mock trial team. She also won Judicial Student of the Year. Richel, a freshman at Duncanville High School, is an outstanding legislative student and was last year’s President Pro-Temp of the Senate for the state of Texas. Michelle, a seventh grader at Kennemer Middle School, is an up and coming YAG student and will be running for Governor this year.
