DHS Band Finishes Memorable Season at State Competition
“We have fabulous kids and we couldn’t be happier with what they’ve done and who they are,” said Director of Bands David Brandon.
The DHS marching band performed in preliminary competition on Tuesday but missed making the final group of 12 bands to compete for the state championship. Brandon said just making it to the state competition is an honor.
“Our kids gave 100 percent throughout the entire season and we’re so proud of what we achieved,” Brandon said.
“We are also extremely proud of the community support that we received. We created a show that they love and that the students love, and I think it will go down as one of the most memorable shows for the Duncanville band.”
The state marching contest draws its participants from local competitions. This year, the field started with 239 bands who entered the Region Contest. That group was narrowed down to 77 bands who advanced to Area finals. From that group, 40 – including the Duncanville ISD Marching Band and High Hats – were selected to compete at state.
The DHS marching band has a long legacy of excellence. Duncanville won state championships in 1986, 1990 and 2002 and has now advanced to the State Marching Band Championship every state competition year for four decades.
