District’s Building Projects Moving Ahead
The walls are going up at the new Acton Elementary School. There were some hurdles last summer and fall to beginning construction, but now that work has started, the process is moving ahead smoothly. Acton’s new campus will open mid-year in 2016 – 2017.
Construction on the new Hastings Elementary School is ahead of schedule. The roof is complete and finishing touches will come on the interior in the next two months. Crews are set to demolish the old Hastings in June. Following that, concrete will be poured for the new parking lot and a new playground will be built.
The new Hastings will open for students and staff in August for the 2016 – 2017 school year.
Students, teachers and staff at Kennemer Middle School are seeing big changes to their campus. Construction crews are renovating the existing building four classrooms at a time in an effort to minimize the impact to the daily routine. By May 1, the cafeteria will transition to an alternate menu for students so the expansion and complete overhaul of Kennemer’s kitchen facilities can be completed.
The Kennemer addition, which will offer 19 new classrooms and accommodate 425 additional students, is scheduled to be finished the summer of 2016.
Hyman Elementary School is also undergoing an expansion for the upcoming school year. The new fifth grade wing being constructed will add five classrooms to accommodate 110 students.
