Although she has only been in her new role for a few weeks, Bernard is already building collaboration between teachers, administrators and paraprofessionals. At a recent faculty meeting, Bernard’s staff discussed the district’s core values and the reasons why each became a teacher. When days or blocks are tough, teachers are reminded of the importance of helping students achieve lifelong success.
“Although what we do is personal, it’s about more than us,” she said. “It’s about student achievement.”
Bernard comes to Duncanville from Grand Prairie ISD where she served as the principal at John Adams Middle School. Bernard started her career in education as a high school English teacher and is excited to return back to her roots. She values feedback from parents, students, teachers and her colleagues. At times, feedback can be difficult to hear, but she knows it is the only way to improve the learning environment for her students.
Bernard’s goal is to end the year with the campus being driven, reflective and ready to start the 2016-2017 school year.
