Congratulations to the Byrd Symphonic I Band for being named
a National Winner in the 2015 Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors
project. The ensemble, directed by Kevin Graham, was chosen as one of the top
bands in the United States. To compete, high school and middle school musical
ensembles enter recordings of their concerts that are adjudicated by nationally
renowned judges. Reed Middle School Symphonic I Band, directed by Michelle
Hanegan and Kennemer Middle School Symphonic I Band, directed by Lucy Pascasio,
are Commended Winners.
“The Duncanville ISD bands are wonderful examples of musical
achievement, and are a credit to your school district,” said Rick Yancey, The
Foundation for Music Education’s Managing Director.
In the annual competition, the top 25-percent of bands are
selected as National Winners and the second 25-percent receive Commended
Honors. In 2015, the competition received 229 entries from 36 states.
