Brandenburg Robotics Team exists to compete in the TCEA Area 10 Annual Competition. Winning first or second place there allows us to attend the State Competition. The team was started during the 2005-2006 school year by Mrs. Post. She took teams to State twice.

Last year, the team won first and second at Area. There were 71 teams at the State competition which was hosted by Duncanville. Brandenburg’s two teams finished somewhere in the middle of the pack. We have high hopes to continue our winning tradition with TCEA. The past two years, with the encouragement of Dr. Cyprian, Brandenburg has hosted a local competition in our gym. Daniel Intermediate has brought students to compete in Robot Drag Races, Robot Baseball, and Robot Sumo Wrestling.

To get onto the team, 5th grade students must be nominated by their teacher. Those nominations happen during the 6th week of the school year. Students must complete an application explaining what talents they would bring to the team. Mr. Pettit selects 15 5th grade students who begin learning robot skills. They return as 6th graders to go to competition.

Students learn robot skills on Lego Mindstorm NXTs and EV3s. They also learn teamwork and problem solving skills. Mr. Pettit rotates the groups through different challenges. Each challenge requires the students to make the programming more precise. They also learn how to use a touch sensor, sound sensor, light sensor, and ultrasonic sensor.

Because it is a privilege to be on the Brandenburg Robotics Team, those students are expected to have the best behavior and passing grades. The robotics team works hard to represent Brandenburg and Duncanville well.
