Greetings Panther Family,
I am so excited to be the Counselor for the 2015-2016 school year at Mary E. Smithey PACE High School. As Duncanville ISD makes transitions to best serve our students, I have been brought on at PACE to support the students, families, teachers, and administration. While the task at hand is great, the benefits everyone's hard work is greater and well worth it. With 15 total years in the field of education ranging from Pre-K through 12th grade in subject areas including English I and IV, ESL, Journalism, Debate, Reading, and Professional Communications, I am well equipped to take on any challenges that may arise with a solution focused methodology of counseling.
My credentials include an Associate's Degree of Science from Hill College, a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in English from Texas State University, and a Master's of Arts in School Counseling from Amberton University. I hold teaching certifications in Early Childhood Education through 4th grade (generalist), English (secondary), English as a Second Language (ESL) (all grade levels), and School Counseling (all grade levels). This is my fourth year as a school counselor, though my first year as a Duncanville ISD Counselor, though I taught at Duncanville High School for six years previously.
Education and kids are my passion. I believe in building a relationship with each individual student so they feel comfortable sharing their needs so that I can best support them academically, socially, and emotionally. My primary goal is to help EVERY student find success and to achieve positive growth. Services that I provide are small group counseling, individual academic planning (present and post-high school), referrals to outside agencies and help groups, and support for parents in relation to their students' needs.
I welcome each of you to call, email, or come by to visit with me at any point. You are all valuable to me, and I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and that "teamwork makes the dream work." Together we can help all of the students on our campus find success that will build their confidence and help them to make their dreams come true.
