Dr. Mark Irwin

Reading and English Literature have been a life-long passion for me, beginning with the comic books I bought after throwing my afternoon paper route in middle school. I attended a downtown high school, and whenever we had a long lunch I'd spend mine in one of the five or six nearby bookstores. My career as a student, graduate student and educator is summed up in a quote from Stepanie S. Tolan: "Education is an adventurous quest for the meaning of life, together with an ability to think things through." After a B.A. in religious studies with a minor in English Lit at the University of Tulsa, I went on to Baylor University, where I pursued first an M.A. in Theology, then an M.A. in English Literature. Afterwards I went to the University of Virginia for a Ph.D. combining my two passions in religion & literature. Upon graduation, I taught a year at Southern Methodist University before discovering my true passion--middle school! I've been living happily ever after. READ ON!
