Western Oregon University - Bachelor of Science in Education with a Math Focus

Mr. Brian Blair

I grew up in the Houston area before moving to Liberty City, Texas as a teenager where I played football and participated in theater. After graduating from Sabine High School, I went into the Air Force and served as security police in Spain, Saudi Arabia and South Dakota.

After four years of service, I exited to go to college. Initially attending Kilgore College, where I studied journalism, I continued my studies at the University of Texas at Arlington. From there, I spent the next decade working as a music journalist for various newspapers, magazines and websites.

In 2000, I married and moved to Salem, Oregon. While there, I felt a growing interest in teaching and, specifically, in teaching math. So, I enrolled at Western Oregon University and began working towards a degree in education with a focus on math. After graduating in 2013, I took a position at Houck Middle School in Salem, where I taught math to sixth, seventh and eighth grade special education students.

After 14 years in Oregon, my family and I decided to return to Texas. I was thankful to find a position at Daniel Intermediate and started teaching sixth grade math here in 2014.

This year I'm excited to be attending Dallas Baptist University, where I'm working towards my Masters degree in school counseling.
